Dr. Yanchun Xu was born and educated in China where she trained for eight years and received her Bachelor and Master of Medicine degrees (the equivalent of a US M.D.) from prestigious universities (Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine). She furthered her education in the United States and attended South Dakota State University where she received her Master of Science in Counseling and Human Resource Development degree. Dr. Xu has years of experience as an assistant professor, teaching assistant, and Tai chi instructor. She worked as an assistant professor at Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China) and later taught as a teaching assistant and Tai Chi instructor at South Dakota State University. 

Dr. Xu has published nine scientific research articles as the first author and has written and co-written six books on Traditional Chinese Medicine. She was also the principal investigator and co-investigator for numerous grant-funded research projects on topics of Traditional Chinese Medicine and mental health. 

In addition to her teaching and research experience, Dr. Xu is an active and practicing acupuncturist and Oriental Medicine practitioner at Evidence Based Oriental Medicine (EBOM) clinics in Omaha, Nebraska and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She founded EBOM Clinics in 2014 and is also the Chair of a Chinese herbal company in Omaha, Nebraska called UFine herbs.
